COVID-19 Food Relief in 2020 and 2021
While COVID-19 has affected the entire world, some people have had a more difficult time coping with the repercussions. Living in a third-world country where one basically lives day by day, many people in Uganda have struggled to feed themselves and their families during this difficult time.
The majority of our families were forced to stop working when lockdown began in March 2020 due to COVID-19. Their workplace closed and didn't resume operating until January 2021. This means that the two meals they normally receive each day, they didn't get. Schools have also been closed since March. This means that the lunch we normally pay for for all of our students to receive at school, they didn't get. We knew that our families would struggle to have enough food to feed everyone in their families. We couldn't sit idly by and watch the people we love so dearly go hungry.
DID YOU KNOW?
We normally feed 13 elderly and their families, totaling over 60 people, one good meal every day. For 9 of the 12 months in the 2020 year, during the hardest part of lockdown, we distributed food and supplies to 80 families, feeding over 400 people one good meal every day. For 17 of the 24 months in the 2020 and 2021 years, we have fed 65 families, totaling over 300 people, a good meal every day.
In 2020 and 2021, we have delivered over 120,000 pounds of essential food and supplies to families in Jinja, ensuring that the families in our program didn’t go hungry during lockdown due to COVID-19.
Delivering all of these care packages to our families cost us an additional $40,000 outside of our annual budget for the 2020 year and an additional $25,000 outside of our annual budget for the 2021 year.
Due to life starting to go back to normal and students finally going back to school in January 2022, our last food delivery to our families was in December 2021. We do continue to deliver to our elderly.
We created a shirt to remember all that God helped us accomplish during these difficult two years!
You have the option of purchasing one that is single-sided or double-sided with His Heart For Africa on the front.
The shirt features our food delivery truck on the back, filled with matooke (a type of banana/plantain). The license plate says 120,000 lbs and it has the 2020 and 2021 years under the lights. Philippians 4:19 is also written on the truck which says "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." Praise Jesus!
